The minimal perfect experience


We tend to think that the thoughts we create about the world represent reality. That might be true in some cases but if you want to build and grow anything you have to learn to be real.

Learn to be real begins with the experience and build backwards from there. This lets you get the experience right before you get the solution wrong.

In my work and life in general the minimal perfect experience method has worked very well.

The methodology goes like this:

Fell the experience – Simplify the experience – Prototype the experience

If you are a company selling mountain bike equipment you can do this:

(Feel the experience)

Observe passionate mountain bikers and identify the one key motive that drives their experience

(Simplify the experience)

Design a simple solution that excel at solving the one key motive in their experience

(Prototype the experience)

Create the experience with the minimum amount of resources and add the simple solution

Or

If you are a farther to a little girl you can do this:

(Feel the experience)

Understand what really matters to her (Ex. Your time)

(Simplify the experience)

Plan simple magical moments with her (Ex. Just you and her)

(Prototype the experience)

Make the simple magical moments real (Ex. Walk in the forest)

What I am learning when creating minimal perfect experiences at work and life is that somehow the work and life get simpler.

It forces me to deal with the actual problems I am trying to solve instead of my thoughts and ideas about those problems.

It forces me to deal with reality.
